The following is for dosbox 0.74. Other versions may produce different results. Add this to dosbox conf file:
[sblaster]
type=sb16
base=388
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5
oplmode=opl3
Run SETUP.EXE in the game directory under dosbox.
Select Adlib Gold for the music and digital sounds.
From the in game menu select configure and turn on game sounds and music. Turn off digital sounds. The game sounds should be fine now including engine and firing guns. |

I have found after some experimentation, that if you copy the DSOUND.FT file from the original 1942 paw into the 1942 Gold edition installation folder and overwrite the newer file, Sound is restored. Albeit not perfect, some sounds appear to be missing But it eliminates the horrible sound distortion. |

Dosbox ver .74
Ubuntu 11.10
Lenovo T400
The game works perfectly in ubuntu, including sound. Played both the simulation mode and also the strategic carrier battle mode.
I also tried on my windows 7 box. The game works but sound is very messed up.

DOSBOX 0.73
Original floppy version: runs and plays fine. However, neither the Scenario Disk patch nor later patches (1.4+) will install under DOSBox emulation.
GOLD Version: this fully patched version will run correctly but has severe sound issues that are unable to be resolved with any configuration settings or additional patches. |

How did you configure sound? I get nothing but noise. I am using the 1942dig sound patch and paw15b game patch. Tried both the Windows sound config and the install.exe as well. No joy either way.
