Working sound with dosbox (2014-05-15 15:24) |

Here's how I got Dungeon Master II running with the sound working:
1. Install D-Fend Reloaded + Update (Dos Box front end)
2. Run D-Fend, go to Add -> import archive file -> your dungeon master 2 .zip
3. Right Click on Dungeon Master II -> Files & Folders -> Open program folder.
4. Download DMII-Game-PC-HMIUpdate.rar from http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/612 (
(Thanks Starshaped!)
5. Extract the rar into the Dungeon Master II folder replacing files.
6. Run Dosbox in D-Fend -> type: cd dungeo~1 -> type: setup
7. Select Autodetect (ignore warning) -> Detect -> OK your way out of there and close window
(note: don't worry about the midi test not working if you try it).
8. Run Dungeon Master II in D-Fend with working sound (hopefully!) |

Error [35] : Unexpected Interrupt (2013-08-09 16:14) |

|
Running DOSbox 0.74 in Win 7 64bit OS.
When I attempt to run Dungeon Master II, the game halts and reports the DOS4GW.exe interrupt error, displaying register addresses and register field data.
First time this has ever happened. Anyone else seen this error? |

I had no sound effects and tried everything written here to no avail. Then I discovered the HMI Driver Update:
"Dungeon Master II for PC uses DOS sound drivers that were developed by Human Machine Interfaces. This archive contains a version of these drivers that is more recent than the one included with Dungeon Master II. These files were taken from Anvil of Dawn, another game using the same drivers. This newer version supports more sound cards so it may help you get sound in the game."
To get it, scroll to the bottom of this link http://dmweb.free.fr/?q=node/612 and download the HMI update file. Move and replace all the files within to your DM2 folder and run the setup to find several more options for your soundcard settings. Hopefully one of the new settings will allow you to get sound effects along with your music =)
For me the digital device settings that worked were:
Thunderboard, Port 220,DMA 1, IRQ 5 |

|
DOSBox (v 0.74) (2012-06-18 05:56) |
muCkk
|
|

It's working for me on 0.74-2. No special settings were needed. |

My working sound configuration (2011-10-02 17:03) |

DOSBox configuration:
[sblaster]
sbtype=sbpro2
sbbase=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5
sbmixer=false
oplmode=auto
oplemu=default
oplrate=44100
DM2 configuration:
[DIGITAL]
DeviceName = Sound Blaster 16
DeviceIRQ = 5
DeviceDMA = 1
DevicePort = 0x220
DeviceID = 0xe015
Don't ask me why, but it works for me this way. |

If you change both in dosbox.conf to sbpro1 or 2 and change the values to dma = 1 irq = 5 and hdma = 7 and also go with the same values in dm2 setup. there is no problem at all.. im running with cpu dynamic to and its great. |

The sounds problem (2009-07-04 20:54) |
Wandrell
|
|
|
"When using a Sound Blaster 16 Vibra, Sound Blaster AWE/32, or
Sound Blaster SCSI you should select Sound Blaster Pro or Sound Blaster
in the SETUP program." according to the readme.
And when having dosbos set to use soundblaster 16 the game only has sound when choosing normal soundblaster on the setup, so it may be a problem of the game and not the emulator. |

Dosbox 0.63 - Works perfectly! (2005-10-10 10:03) |

Set the [CPU] Core to Dynamic: the game will run faster, and set the Sound Blaster to sbpro2 to have sound and music both working. |

More testing done, and finally when movie files were deleted (ftl and intro from main game directory) sound effects started to work (SB PRO and earlier cards). I know that this was mentioned earlier, but my stupid head somewheat didint noticed that. |

Game runs with perfectly emulated music. I have problem with sound effects. Somehow game always autodetects SB pro, even when i choose sb16. Gravis also can't be emulated on my machine (i've got all the drivers). Sometimes game refuses to run, sometimes runs and shows that sound device wasn't found (but music still plays - probably because it's midi). Any ideas? (My cycles settig was at 1200) |

The game works OK, but had to increase FRAMESKIP to 1 and rise cycles to 9000, higher cycles disrupts the sound for me. And the game crashes for me if I bress anything during starting animations (even dosbox special keys). |

I had to rise cycles to 7200 otherwise game crashed after playing FTL logo. Now works smoothly :) |

i have good news, i did an experiment with cycles value. fullscreen is better than window mode. just raise cycles by ctrl+f12 and you find an optimal value for playing. i also tried core=normal and there were no errors or problems. |

soo slow (2004-02-12 20:33) |

Game indeed does work if you set core=full but is extremely slow even on highend machines. Is so sluggish it's not really worth playing, to me. |

Woohoo, it works perfectly (well, almost :/ ) in the newest release, first time I've ever played it with sound :) |

I can run DM II with one modification in config
core=full
but there is still one big problem - the game is very slow - tested on xp 1800+
so, it is playable, but you must be very patient |

DOSBox (v 0.60) broken Dungeon Master II v 0.9 (2003-10-23 04:18) |
Trooper
|
|
|
Looks like troubles are beginning when initiating keyboard scancodes (handler). When running DM II v0.9 (pre release version) it runs smoothly until keyboard arrow(s) are pressed - then crash with:
Exit to error: CPU:GRP5:Illegal Call 7
|
|
|
DOSBox (v 0.60) broken (2003-10-23 04:14) |
Trooper
|
|
|
You can erase movie files
[credits, end, ftl, intro, splash],
which are compiled executables
- and then test only game engine itself.
Game Engine fails running:
Exit to error: Illegal GRP4 Call 2
Game setup(HMI): Works, Tests and saves config. |
