Copy Protection issue fixed (2008-08-30 17:53) |

For some reason GC has the copy protection triggered under DosBox, on some operating systems. This limits single player games to 15 rounds and causes multiplayer to crash. A TSR fix has been created by ripsaw (thanks!!!) which you run before running global conquest.
Fix is in this post:

0.72 Knocked down to 85% compat - It thinks it's pirated (2008-01-02 06:28) |

Dosbox seems to trigger some sort of copy protection issue in Global Conquest. This forces the turns to only be at 15 no matter the setting, and causes the mulitplayer to crash.
I assume this is because GC checks for a file $$$STEAL.ME which is supposed to exist as a hidden file. If it doesn't find this file it thinks someone just copied the files from one location to another (not installing and thus doing some pirate stuff!) But the file does exist. I've tried setting the file hidden, not hidden, archived, etc. I'm unsure what DosBOX is doing when the game tries to look for it or what conditions the game wants (maybe it wants it hidden or archive or something and DosBOX isn't giving it the condition)
Windows XP (running the game directly) doesn't seem to trigger the problem, but then you're forced to full screen and cannot use window mode or disable sound or any other dosbox features like multiplayer :( |

0.63 - Works fine for me in Windows DosBox (2005-12-05 13:32) |

I dont get any issues using any core= combination. The only thing that crashes is the same thing in 0.61 of multiplayer. I wish that would be fixed! |

0.63 - Crash Unplayable (2005-06-11 11:29) |

Exit to error: CPU:GRP5:Illegal Call 7
That's with core=normal
Changing CPU Core yields slightly different variations:
full - Illegal opcode (repeats endlessly)
dynamic - Illegal option
simple - Same as normal

0.61
Everything in the game seems to work EXCEPT multiplayer. It uses modem\null serial cable for multiplayer
-- How to get there --
1) Play Game -> Choose Game Type
2) Set a player to Remote Player
3) Click Execute
-- The Error --
run-time error R6000
- stack overflow
I've tested this with the modem option turned off and turned on |
