Install using dosbox 0.74 (2013-05-06 19:16) |
harvester
|
|
|
1) mount (virtual) cd-rom drive (mount d "(cdrom drive letter):" -t cdrom)
2) mount install drive (c: is default)(mount c c:)
3) navigate to mounted cdrom drive (d:)
4) type "install" and follow the subsequent instructions
note: plan which drive you want to install to and mount that drive BEFORE getting to step 4) |

Seems like this forum doesn't recognize brackets...
So after the D: put in a bracket (after the colon), or it wont work. |
|
|
I did a small mistake in the code... (2010-11-11 10:31) |

The correct one should be :
mount D "D:" -t cdrom
|
|

I finally found the solution to the NO CD ROM problem. (2010-11-11 10:13) |

In DOSBox simply type in:
mount D "D:" -t cdrom
This is ofcourse if D is your CD DRIVE, if not then simply change the letter.
Now you should get the message: MSCDEX Installed.
Now try to run the game as you normally would and Voila! Atleast it worked for me, so good luck!

I'm running v0.73 on Windows XP. I mounted my cd-rom (D:) to drive D in DOSBox and mounted the installation directory (c:harvest) to drive C in DOSBox. I installed the game using INSTALL.EXE with no issues. Now, when I run HARVEST.EXE from either C: or D: I get the following error: ERROR! [id:048a] - "No CDROM detected!". I've tried switching directories, reinstalling, restarting, etc. but nothing works. Other games work fine in DOSBox, I've got everything properly configured. Can anyone help? |

Buffled: One other thing that might help is if you switch from full-screen mode to windowed-mode, or vice versa (just hold down ALT + ENTER). |

Buffled: Sorry to hear about the game crashing when you reach CD3. I played thru the entire game in DOSbox, and did not face that problem. My guess is that your disc bad/scratched, or its just a random error (I faced quite a few of those as I was playing). Harvester is a buggy game, so I'd keep trying. |

Vess and (especially) raven2891 offered valuable tips. Thanks to their advice, I was able to play with few problems after I (1) told DosBox to mount my CD-ROM drive as the D: drive, and (2) installed via DOSBox.
Game plays relatively well under DOSbox version 0.72. There are occasional sound glitches that don't necessarily recur if you replay the same scene a 2nd time. Video cutscenes occasionally end prematurely, but this happens less often if you play the game in a window (as opposed to in full-screen mode).
Those two problems (occasional sound glitches and occasional cutscene skipping) may not be the fault of DOSbox; for all I know, the game may have shipped as a buggy product, as I've never gotten it to run without using DOSbox! |

A way to solve the wait.abm error (2007-10-08 15:26) |

I am not sure whether it works for everyone but this is what I did. Using dosbox 0.72 ~ 0.63, I mount my C drive (the place I want to install harvester). Then I mount my cdrom as mount D D:\ -t cdrom. Make sure you are mounting the Disc 1 of Harvester in your cdrom. Then install the game via dosbox itself. You should be able to install it to your mounted C drive. After the game has finish installing, just type Harvest and the game will run without the error. I realise the error will come out if you mount the wrong disc (you have to have disc 1) or if you didn't install the game from dosbox itself. Please play using the latest version btw, because using 0.63 it lags like hell. Hope this helps. |

Heres some help for anyone receiving this error:
ERROR! [id:04c5] - "could not read abm_filename: 1:\graphic\other\wait.abm"
if you set the drive letter when mounting the cdrom to D: it should load correctly. |

Works fine with ver. 0.63 except for some minor in-game movies glitches . Needs to be installed via DosBox. Sound problems can be fixed by setting longer playback prebuffer. |

Since you got it running, PLEASE help me. This is my computer info. Thanks. I hope you get this message.
Motherboard: x86 Family 6 model 8 stepping 3
AT/AT Compatible
261,600 KB RAM
Video NVidia GeForce 256
Sound Soundblaster Audigy
OS MS Windows 2000
PROBLEM: You suggest to install the game via DosBox. I've did that and configured my sound for the game to Soundblaster. Then I go to execute HARVEST.EXE. And I get this error
ERROR! [id:04c5] - "could not read abm_filename: 1:\graphic\other\wait.abm"
I get this error everytime I try to run the game. I have also read the readme.txt file. Thanks again.

The game needs to be installed via DOSBox, and, when run, it will display some error messages - but it works (though extremely slowly). |
