I have the orginal cd-rom, and could never get it
to run, not even on my win 98 machine, until I created the batchfile with the "set DOS16M=:4M
law" line.
However, you must also run the setsound.exe program, otherwhise the game will stay in the main menu.
It is recommended to also create a dosbox config file for this game, with the following settings:
cycles=fixed 21500 (auto doesn't work well in some
levels, these will otherwise be unplayable).
gus=true (no you don't have to disable soundfx in setsound, but you should still run the setsound.exe program). If you keep the default setting of gus=false, you should disable soundfx with setsound.exe to fix the main menu problem mentioned earlier.
I tested it with dosbox 0.73, the game is quite nice, and it's a port of the supernes game. The dos version is almost as good.

in the folder that you installed the game in Create a TXT document with These Lines
"set DOS16M=:4M
law"
and when you save it change the extention from .TXT to .BAT then save it as "start". run it through Dosbox With This file that you've created |

I can confirm the above although it may be due to a badly ripped version - I didn't have the original CD to test with. |

Doesn't run.
Gives message "Judge Dredd needs an extended memory manager to run.
Settings in my config:
xms=true
ems=true
umb=true
Still a no go.
