Tips for the CD version (2014-09-09 10:45) |

CPU - 20000 cycles
The CD version has voices for all NPCs! This version has a spinning CD at the title screen instead of a red x. See screenshots at Moby Games. The CD audio tracks are for these voices. Note of caution: The game can be installed without needing the CDs during play. Voices will still play in the intros and shops, but not for the many NPCs throughout the land. Easily overlooked by many!
Audio - Soundblaster sounds best. Prebuffer set to 100 to fix the cracking music. Leave SB mixer unchecked - now the intro speech is the right volume.
The mouse flickers towards the top of the screen. This can be reduced by increasing the cpu cycles, but then the cursor might lag. |

Xeen Working in Windows 7 with dosbox 0.74 (2011-06-11 14:06) |

So after tweeking the sound settings over and over, I found that the SFX and the Music work just fine, but that disabling the speech will fix all my glitches. The game never even asks me to change CD's anymore. |

Still some freezing (2011-05-25 21:44) |

Tried the IRQ change from 7 to 5 and the dialogue works perfectly, but now it freezes whenever leaving a shop.
Also freezes at the CD change screen every time I try to enter Ellinger's Tower on the dark side regardless of my sound settings, and if I get a CD change screen when loading from the title screen |

The IRQ change you suggested got me past a consistent lockup near the beginning of the intro cinematic. I never would've figured that out on my own. Thanks a lot! |

I changed IRQ from 7 to 5 in my dosbox.conf for the current version of 0.74 and magically midi/speech when using shops works now, no more crashes. This was after tweaking every other midi and sb emulation setting so hopefully this saves someone else some time.
Now I'm happy to report that the game runs perfectly. |

error drawing sprite in window (2007-04-30 21:27) |

There are two issues I have with this game, first the speech always locks the game so I have to turn sound effects off, secondly when using the town portal spell (but not the mirrors) it locks up, or if I change the cycle setting to max instead of auto drops the game with the message.
"error drawing sprite in window" any help would be great. |

Change 14000 cycles to 17000-20000. Partly fixes a cursor flicker issue while not going so far as to start hampering performance. mouse still flickers when very close to danger sense indicator. |

63MB limit + EMS/EXM, 14000 cycles dynamic, 0 frameskip, SB16 with 44100 sample, 512 block size, 100 prebuffer. Install with SB as both music/effects and speech. Music is a little quiet, but I'm told turning off the mixer may fix that. There is some minor sound corruption, but I remember that way back when I had this on my P1 75MHz, 16MB RAM, SB16 machine.
Installation used for this config is the Ultimate M&M Archive CD version (MM1-5 + Swords, moslo for compatibility, no CD check). Be sure to set up NOT using the packaged moslo utility. |

Can't get much plainer than that. If anyone can offer a possible solution to this, I'd be grateful. I'm sure y'all want to know what kind of system I've got, so here are some basic specs
Operating Sys: Windows 2000 Prof - SP4
MotherBoard: Chaintech ZNF3-250GB pro
Chipset: nVIDIA nforce 250, AMD Hammer
Memory: 1GB PC3200 DDR
Video Card: RADEON 9800 PRO 256 AGP
I was also curios on how I can get a bit mroe speed out of it as well. Alrighty, thanks for reading, I've got business in Sandcaster.

Problems with CD-Version MM3-5 + Swords (2006-04-12 02:18) |

DosBox 0.65
Have the CD Version here, with Might & Magic 3-5 and Swords of Xeen.
The Installer worked after choosing CD-Rom Emulation with -ioctl.
Cannot change the game settings though, the game always says "Please run the installer from CD"
Created an empty file named Xeen.cfg, seemed to work, but game always crashes when using the tavern in Vertigo (MM4 starting city)
Have to take a look at the timing issues, too, sort of annoying |

I'm trying to get world of xeen to work with dosbox. I've put in tons of commands and can get through to install it, but in the middle of install it says theres not enough space. I can install straight from the cd, but then I can actually open the game from dosbox to play? I'm lost, any help would be great! Thanks |

I've tried MOUNT with -aspi and -ioctl switches, but it doesn't work. The CD is mounted, but still are problems with cd check. I use CD-ROM from Might and Magic Millennium Edition - maybe that's the reason? |

Floppy versions nearly perfect, but... (2004-05-01 02:33) |

The games work very nicely, but there are a few minor issues. The game's do have timing issues, it looks like they weren't coded with any limiting - the intro animation in Clouds showing the bird flying goes across the screen a number of times depending on how many CPU cycles you use. It's fairly sensitive to CPU cycles - I recommend 10,000 or so to offset slow movement vs. fast animations. The MIDI music is perfect through the Roland Canvas option provided your MIDI synthesizer is good (cheap onboard Realtek sounds great), but the Adlib option is very quiet. DOSBox would need a mixer to vary emulated MIDI volume vs. digital volume. |

CD Version in 0.61 (2004-03-05 10:52) |
Lutriawolfe

As of Version 0.61, you can now use the CD version. Just be sure to use the -ioctl or -aspi switch when mounting the CD drive.
To answer a few questions
Yes, the drive will play CD audio
Yes, your drive will use digital extration if the drive on the host system is set to use it.
Yes, virtual CD volumes may work, tested with Nero 6's Imagedrive using an .nrg CD image, and yes, you can play CD audio if you mount an .nrg image of M&M4/7

SoundBlaster in 0.58 (2003-10-16 03:22) |
mirekluza
|
|
|
0:58: When Soundblaster/Soundblaster Pro is used for speech, the game occasionally freezes (especially during intro). This is a new bug in DOSBOX 0.58. As a workaround use Disney Sound Source for speech (lesser quality than SoundBlaster, but acceptable) or use version 0.60 (this DMA bug was fixed there). |
