Assuming you get the game from an abandonware site, look at the file "maupan.exe", which may (or may not) be inside "crack.zip". You want the version of maupan.exe that is about 56 KB in size, not 32 KB.

Using a hex editor on the 56 KB version, edit two things: value 8B0B, change from 75 to 90; and value 8B0C, change from CC to 90.

This will fix the problem of the game crashing when you try to read text. Tested, and game completed successfully, in DosBox 0.74-3.
