by the way, there's a remake of privateer available.
The old good priv 1 with some added features,
mostly new ships, graphics (models, effects etc).
Built upon the Vegastrike engine. |

same problem w/ cursor drift to upper left and calibrating two joysticks. hanswursts24's solution didn't work, but changed .conf file:
joysticktype=2axis
timed=false
& now it works. |

I got the same problems like cattack. The mouse runs to upper left if joystick is enabled in DOSBox.
But @bobk:
A solution for you is the following: Calibrate the first joystick if game askes. After you completed the first joystick and the game prompts yu for number 2 close DOSBox! Use your favorite filemanager, browse to the Privateer directory, copy/double the joya.dat and rename it to joyb.dat.
Then restart DOSBox and Privateer - it should run now... |

Joystick configuration (2007-04-11 07:31) |

For the most part, this game runs well. However, I installed my Logitech joystick and when starting Privateer, a joystick calibration screen is immediately displayed. It prompts me to calibrate Joystick 1, which I do, then it prompts me to calibrate Joystick 2. I changed the value in the .conf file from Auto to 4axis and back again to Auto, but any changes have no affect.
Does anyone have a suggestion about what I might change so the game sees only one joystick? Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
Regards,
bobk |

I have tried running it and the new joystick routines seem to cause problems. As soon as I turn on joystick control, the cursor flys to the to bottom right corner of the screen. In game calibration of joystick has no effect. |

I couldn't get the game find the cd (also after mounting, like "mount d d:\ -t cdrom"), but then I found out it was looking for cd-rom drive E:\, because in the file "PRIV.CFG" it says: "=E:priv.tre". I changed that to "=D:priv.tre". |

EMS must be set to false, but XMS should probably be set to true. What happens when you try to enable sound? The game has an installation menu where you set music and sound options. DOSBox is probably defaulting to irq 7, dma 1, port 220, any sound blaster. |

Modify setting of ems and xms to false and it'll run. The problem I got is that I cannot enable sound. |

It seems to be broken under 0.63 (2005-06-26 15:58) |

I've been trying to run the game with different settings under 0.62, and the results are negative. It seems there was a trouble with EMS support, as I understood.
Then the DOSBox 0.63 was installed, but the problem remains. |

I've been playing Privateer for many hours with the 0.63 version, and it run quite fast :)
Just setting (as say before) ems and xms to false, and with the cycles in 9000 ;) |

Hey people if you like me remeber this game and loved it then, you will be all the more keen for the next version of Dos Box 0.62
I tried to run Dos box with the appropriate settings, however the game ran so slowly it was virtually unplayable.
I messed around with the PC cycles and skipped frame rate but to no avail. Will wait impatiently for the next version of Dos Box with baited breath. |

The settings are explained in another entry for privateer (look at wing commander: privateer). You have to set both ems and xms to false in your dosbox.conf
ps: and thanks for all the fish ;) |
