proper solution to fast text - anthology cd (2006-08-13 00:19) |

The text disappears fast because you have not correctly mounted the game cd.
The game is programmed to make the text disappear when the audio finishes playing, which is straight away without the presence of the audio files.
As mentioned above, mount your whole hard disk (so the paths match up to those it installed as) and your whole cd-rom, then the sound effects, narrative and text speed are all fine. |

Hissing Sound (2006-08-04 22:26) |

If you hear only a loud hissing sound, rather than game music and voices, try changing the sound settings from Sound Blaster to Thunderboard in the QFG4 install program. |

Solution for the texts disapearing too fast PS (2006-06-18 12:00) |

PS: You may also need to disable the audio from inside the options menu of the game so the texts of the dialogs stay on screen too. |

I spent a lot of time looking for a workaround for this issue, so here is the solution that worked for me, (The readme.bat says what I am using CD Version 1.0):
Run INSTALL.exe and in the AUDIO selection select "No Audio/Voice Card" this will leave the text boxes for plenty of time. Enjoy this great game! ;)

Can't start the game.... (2006-02-22 15:05) |

Im useing D-Fend on a windows XP machine, because I'm inept at useing DOSBox on its own. Whenever I try to start QFG4CD, it says SIERRA.EXE cannot be run in DOS mode. When I try to run it by itself, I get a pop up that says "Windows Titles Not Found" and then the screen goes black a second and crashes to my desktop. Am I doing something wrong? |

Good but fast text (2005-12-26 22:54) |

I do get the fast text scrolling by, the only way I've found to fix that, you guessed it, the old "pause/break" button on the keyboard. Works like a charm. Although it does seem like a bit of a hack. |

I have the same problem with the text (2005-08-13 13:47) |

Regardless of Speed I set game or dosbox cycles to, the text vanishes before I can read it. I happen to read pretty fast too. It is on screen maybe 1 - 2 seconds. Any tips? |

Shadows of Darkness CD-ver. runs almost flawlessly under .63 (2005-03-23 10:47) |

Sound: run the game by typing 'qg4cd'(_NOT_ 'sierra.exe'<- no sound) from within c:\sierra (or c:\sierra\qg4cd), and use the 'install.exe' file (within the 'qg4cd' sub-directory) to setup the game to use Soundblaster for sound & music- it'll run perfectly: no cut off voices, no messed up sounds, everything sounds great.
Error 52: Tested with speed FAST (almost to top), & normal sound settings (just like above) on the 1st day. NO ERROR 52 under Dos-Box .63 (WinXP w/ SP 1 + 512+ MB RAM). I personally used acrobactics (strength too low to wade) to flip into Mad-Monk-Tomb screen, then flip towards Monster, entered into Fight-Mode with NO errors, defeated monster, got Ritual from Tomb, flipped out of swamp, Day One. Try it, no need for cheesy work around with spells or throwing rocks (can't throw rocks in swamp anyway). |

Works fine on 0.63 long as the sounds turned down in the game options screen. Put the sound bar in the middle and it should work fine. |

Kinda.. (2004-08-17 13:34) |

Unless I have some settings wrong, it doesn't take long for the game to crash. Sounds work fine, but it will crash randomly. I had it crash when fighting, walking into various areas, sliding at the beginning (although this was a known bug if I remember right). It's definately close though. Hopefully the next version will fix the rest of the crashes. Right now You can't keep playing without crashing, it will eventually. |

Almost perfect... (2004-02-08 19:56) |

Under DOSBox 0.61, the game runs flawlessly.. It even seems less prone to crashing than it was under real DOS. The 'slide' at the beginning usually takes 2 or 3 tries to get through, but I have yet to see that crash occur at all under DOSBox.
The game *does* crash on exit, but by then it doesn't matter... |

Torch crash (2003-12-14 08:40) |

First time I tried the talking version from the Anthology, the game crashed inside the cave when trying to pick up the torch beside the shrine.
Second time, I did not get the crash.
Got by the slippery slope after talking to Katrina. Looks hopefully that the game can be played through, but save often.

Works ok on 0.60 (2003-10-21 10:20) |

The game seems to work ok. Saves work, as does voice + sound using soundblaster settings. Narrator's voice works well, but when speaking with people, the end of their speach is cut off. I did experience a crash when going into the northern part of town with Igor and the thief's guild, but that could be a bug in the original game or in dosbox. All in all, quite impressive. |
