DOSBox version: 0.58 (supported)
Works in 0.74 (2023-08-24 01:17)
Dronon
In 0.74, machine=amstrad (NOT cga; tandy also works). Only bug found: After the death music, there is an annoying sound, stops when you load a new game. Click on "Shadowgate" for the Save menu.
Larger window: output=surface, scaler=normal3x. (Or windowresolution=1280x800, output=opengl or ddraw.) Original window resolution was 320x200.
That should work! if not, common problems are: (1) Game skips the "Continue" prompts, so you can't read all the text. (2) Sound plays at the wrong speed, pauses the game until it finishes. (3) Can't type inside the window when prompted.
Torch cheat: Requires familiarity with Cheat Engine.
Settings, Scan Settings, Add check-mark in "2 Bytes". Point the software at DosBox.
Set "Value Type" to "2 bytes" and "Scan Type" to "Unknown initial value". Run First Scan.
Change "Scan Type" to "Decreased value".
(*)In the game, move to another room, then in Cheat Engine, run Next Scan.
Repeat (*) about 4 or 5 times, until you find the torch value.

Does anyone have problem saving? Any response is appreciated.
Speaking (2007-08-29 18:29)

When playing Shadowgate with DOSBox 7.1 and 7.2, the game freezes when you try to use the "Speak" command (at least that's what it's doing to me; can't say for certain about anybody else). Being able to speak is necessary to cast certain spells in order to complete the game.
Beeper sound takes ages... (2004-10-23 03:00)

When special sound effects (like opening door, hitting rags) are played through the (emulated)beeper, it's take a long time, before regaining game control...
