sosdigiinitdriver - fix (2024-08-17 22:39) |

I had the same issue with the error as e.g. Superlokkus mentioned. The problem was that the game directory in Dosbox was not the one in the sttng.ini file. In my case, the game folder was monted as C:, while the sttng.ini pointed to c:sttng. Making it equal fixed the sosdigiinitdriver issue and the game runs fine with sound and tactical when core is set to "normal" and SB8 is configured. |

Running on Steam Deck (2024-06-16 09:49) |

Hi, has anyone managed to get this to work on the Steam Deck? I've tried a few different methods but had no joy. The closest I've come is going through the setup menu and installing the game but then when I click on the shortcut to run it, Dosbox opens but freezes as does my Steam Deck in general. Has anyone else managed to set it up on the Steam Deck that can run me through their process? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Any execution on ARM MacBooks leads to sosdigiinitdriver (2023-12-27 18:06) |

I wanted to run my STTNG setup, that worked on my x86-64 Macbook and x64 Windows, it stopped working with sosdigiinitdriver on Game startup on ARM MacBooks, either with Dosxbox on macOS, nor with Dosbox on Windows ARM virtualized via VMWare Fusion on macOS.
The game files, CD-ROM directory, game install base, dosbox conf was copied and worked before.

Really happy I found this site and possibility to get this wonderful game to run.
I had some issues in the beginning, Win10-64bit, Dosbox 0.74-3.
I installed it from a direcory where I copied the whole cd into, mounting that folder as cd rom drive. Installation went to anoher folder nearby, mouted on c:sttng.
In the end I got it running with config-adjustments RobinSword mentioned before.
The crashes-in-tactical-menu issue was solved by setting core=normal which seems to be the only solution for this error. Tried various other ways to work around it before, without any success.
But now... I dive in to nostalgia! |

I just installed the game under DOSBox 0.74 running on a Win7 64-bit machine.
Installation: Worked fine. Sound and Video were detected correctly when using the Auto Detection.
Playing: Worked, but I got a crash each time I switched to the Tactical Station. In the DOSBox Wiki it is suggested to set "core=normal" in DOSBox's configuration file. After doing so I did not get a crash anymore. The game works fine now! Let's explore strange new worlds!! :-) |

DOSBox .74 Video issue (2013-05-05 03:01) |

So, I just tried installing this game on an XP machine, everything works. Installs fine. I boot the game up and I hear sounds, but I get no video. My screen is set to HI16bit 640 screen.
Any thoughts on what I did wrong? When I click escape it skips each video until I get to presumably the intro screen where I need to click, but since i can't see anything I can't see my options. |

Keep SB16 on IRQ 7 (2013-03-25 15:14) |

|
TheRichrocker, I had the same problem. In my case, it was because I'd changed the DOSBox IRQ setting for the SB16 to IRQ 5. Most later DOS games expected the Sound Blaster IRQ to be 5, but for some reason A Final Unity will crash in DOSBox at the tactical screen if IRQ is set to 5. Use the DOSBox default of IRQ 7 and it should fix the crashing.
Other than that, the recent suggestions to game config are corrent. Set UNIVESA to ON, FULLSCREEN to ON, and the game should be able to use the 640x480 with 65536 colors video option. I'd also recommend using ykhwong's SVN Daum build so you can use Direct3D output. |

"Turn "off" the uni-vesa driver and VERY IMPORTANT turn "off" the "Text on" option."
This may have been necessary at the time. Now it's different.
In 0.74, I have to actually set UNIVESA to ON, or the screen will stay black. This already happens in the installer.
Text option (subtitle) can be on or off, both settings work fine. |

The game works fine. Recommendations:
- Use an ISO, or the game will stall when the CD spins down.
- Set your own CPU-cycles, because otherwise, combat will be too fast to handle.
- UNIVESA (in the installer/setup) must be ON. |

I used dosbox's imgmount to mount the iso that I dumped to the hard drive.
Earlier last year I was unable to get past a sequence with a Romulan warbird, I used the cheat "make it so" during tactical to destroy the Romulan, and I didn't encounter this bug so i was able to complete the game. Using dosbox .73 this game worked wonderfully. |

compatible with 0.73 (2009-09-24 11:14) |

I moved cd contents to a separate folder on hard drive and installed the game from there.
Sound, graphics and battle scenes work all very well.
Best resolution, SB pro, full screen and Univesa off. CPU emulation auto, cycles 30000, 32mb memory.

Blank Menus (2007-10-16 21:07) |
Rodney

Okay,
I got it.
Turn "off" the uni-vesa driver and VERY IMPORTANT turn "off" the "Text on" option.
This means that you're sound card had better work because you won't get test menus for the voices but at least you can play the game. (And it's not a bad game...)
I can't imagine why but both Uni-vesa and "Text on" must be off to get the in game menus, for me anyway.

I have 7.0,
I installed with no problems.
While my video works well, in fact it's surprisingly good, the menus are always blank???
So, I can watch the episode intos but I can't play the game.
Does anyone have a fix for that?

Crash when switching to Tactical (2007-08-19 06:18) |
RMA
|
|

In versions of DosBox where the core in dosbox.conf is set to "core=auto" a DOS4GW-related crash may occur. Found out that this can be fixed by manually setting the core to "core=full". |

Easy Install (2007-04-29 02:36) |
meveric
|
|
|
There is a simple way to install the game when the install screen didn't go on at the CD-Speed-Test:
mount your CD NOT as a CD Drive.
simply "mount d: x:\"
the CD Check at the install will FAIL, but it's a "yellow error" which means install does go on normaly.
after install you'll have to restart dosbox and mount your CD as a CD Drive, else you won't be able to enter the setup. |

But whenever I try to enter the battle mode the game hungs up... |
