I'm also still having problems running this game. It gets as far as loading the intro screen, but when the musics and animation are supposed to start it crashes.
Can someone who got this to work tell which settings he's running the game in?

Runs just peachy ;) A few slowdowns here and there, but nothing too serious.
I'd also like to note that on occasion, the game can crash and return you to the DOS prompt, but this happens very rarely, and might be a bug rather than incompatibility with DOSBox.

So starting from extracting the files can I get a step by step instructions on how to run the game?

Confirmed that all problems have now been solved. The game can be completed. There are two glitches, both which can be repaired:
a) Mouse will not select properly. This is fixed by playing fullscreen (this resolves kraziness' problem mentioned above).
b) Game will not save. This is fixed by setting the TEMP environment variable. For example, make a directory (say c:\temp) then "set TEMP=c:\temp".
In my case I made a "save" directory in SoS's directory and set TEMP to point to that. It was a stupid design decision on their part to save to the temp directory. I remember accidentally wiping out save games in the past due to this.

As the previous says, everything now works fine in .61, however I had to raise the frame skip a notch to get the music to play smoothly.

everything seems to work fine now in 0.61
other problems (2004-01-19 20:37)
kraziness
fails to accept keyboard or mouse commands (i.e. clicking anywhere on main menu starts new game, attempting to choose "exit" or other option results in same effect). Only responds to mouse click, and then only to terribly limited extent.

Game will start, play intro, and go to main menu. However, it appears to freeze whenever the music score changes (ie: when loading or starting a new game). Also note that the little that does work works better in full screen.
Fooling around with pmdibm.com (included game TSR music driver) flags does not work, even though that is probably what causes the problems.
