Runs perfectly for me on DOSBox 0.74 running on Windows 7 32-bit. It took me a little while to get my joystick going but now its going great. It runs more stable than a lot of modern games on windows 7 lol. |

Update: Speech Working, but... (2011-10-25 01:57) |
GloryQuestor
|
|
|
Just as an update, I tried out every sound option in the Install menu and found that Thunder Board does get the speech working for me. My question now is, why does Thunder Board work where the Sound Blaster 16/Pro/Original options do not? |

Speech Not Working on Privateer CD (2011-10-25 01:45) |
GloryQuestor
|
|
|
Everything seems to be working fine, except for the in-game speech. Whenever I try to talk to the Bartender, the first few syllables come out but then the speech stops while the lips still move. When I click to advance the conversation, again the speech says a few syllables but still stops. Didn't get any sound errors and I picked out the right settings, so I'm really not sure what's wrong here. : |

Slow Music Fix (2010-02-20 07:30) |
Fat John

One of two ways to fix the music: 1) plug in a joystick. 2) set joystick=2axis. Don't ask me why but it fixes the music issue. When you start up Privateer, it will prompt you to calibrate the joystick. If you choose option 2, do an online search for JOYA.DAT and JOYB.DAT files and put them in the PRIVATER directory before you start the game. |

Solution for IceDragon79 problem (2009-12-26 07:12) |

|
Check "PRIV.CFG" file in your PRIVATER cataloge. Inside you will find something like "=E:priv.tre" (it was in my case). In this case you should mount your cd-drive or .iso file created from your PrivaterCD as E: .You also can mount as other character and change config info iside the "PRIV.CFG" and "RF.CFG" config files. |

Joystick Calibration (2009-07-29 00:31) |

I have trouble calibrating the joystick. At the calibration screen, the pointer disappears so I have a black screen and no choice but to guess where the joystick is pointing. This results in the joystick (and/or mouse) being stuck in one corner and leaves the game unplayable. Any ideas?

Runs perfectly (2009-05-30 08:14) |
Cube 8
|

|
The game runs almost perfectly on v0.72 and 0.73. I say almost because the in-game music still plays slow. The only way to make it play at normal speed is pausing the game... Everything else is pefrect!
I found a small problem when upgrading from 0.72 to 0.73: In full-screen, while moving the mouse around the menus (inside the base), there is some lag. This can be fixed by setting output=overlay in [sdl] section. |

0.65 Linux game fails to load (2006-10-11 16:38) |

This game fails to load with the D0002-FFFF error on version 0.65 under Linux (opensuse 10.1). I have tried changing the IRQ setting for the soundblaster and it still fails, the IRQ on linux is 185, I don't believe dos understands IRQ no's higher than about 13. |

Weird error code (2005-07-30 02:09) |

I'm trying to run Privateer from DosBox in OS X. When I run PRIV from the command-line, DosBox crashes immediately after loading the MIDI device and spits out the error message: "Exit to error: Illegal descriptor type 0 for int E." I've set ems=false and xms=true, and messed around with my sound settings, and nothing seems to work. Any ideas? |

Various Issues (2005-06-27 03:21) |

D002-FFFF has to do with your sound card configuration. You probably have the wrong irq set. Both xms and ems should not be set to false. xms should be set to true and ems must be set to false. The CD version of Privateer had speech in all the cutscenes. The disk version had a speech pack, but that just primarily added speech to the in-flight communication, not the story's cutscenes. |

Priv Sound and Music (2005-06-22 13:17) |

I got both sound and music at 3000 cycles, frameskip=2, sb16 (base=220 irq=7 dma=1 hdma=5), prebuffer=12. Privateer was installed with sound AND music on sb16. I'm running a 750mhz P3, NVIDIA RIVA TNT2, Labtec USB sound, and Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro (which also works, btw). |

Hey Guys, I've tried setting both xms and ems in my dosbox.config file to false, as well as sound and music options to none. i still get the message "Protected mode driver is not responding to EMS function calls.Make sure your EMS driver is not configured with the NOEMS option. If it is, replace the option "NOEMS" with "RAM".
I am a noob, I have read the readme, but am new to this. Please advise.. |

Speech ? (2005-05-02 03:56) |
BlueIce

Loaded DosBox esp. for Privateer, works great 'cept it slows down when there is a lotta action on the screen, however my question is;
Besides the intro movie is there any other speech in the game ? Bartenders and fly-bys are all text - I can remember this but can't remember if there was speech as well. I know not specifically a DosBox prob but I also wanna give them big ups for making me play a true classic.

D002-FFFF and sound (2005-04-08 18:26) |
Salomo

|
|
I had the same problems as described here, starting with the ems problem and continuing with the irq one... setting ems=false and setting irq to 5 (both in the dosbox.conf as well as in the install - maybe that was what you forgot, fancy-free?) made the game work, but the sound was all chopped up.
I then set music to General Midi and sound FX to sound blaster pro on irq 5 and after switching to full screen the sounds problem was fixed as well.
So it takes some fine tuning, but seems to run well in the end... Now my only remaining problem is that it is way too dark, but i guess thats a problem of my screen/grafix card and not dosbox |

Fatal error.
Error Code: D002-FFFF
Program Halted by code.
JEMM unloaded.
I did all the things people suggested in this column
(ems=false xms=false ipx=false irq=5 frameskip=2 cycles=9500)
Anyone have a suggestion? I really really want to play privateer :) |

Alrighity, Problem solved! sorta of.... (2005-02-21 21:06) |

I had Privateer music card set to soundblaster, when I changed it to general MIDI the intro movie played without crashing. However the music didn't work.
After playing around with the configuration I figured out that you if you disable either music or speech F/X in the INSTALL program the game runs through the intro with no problem. But for some reason the intro crashes when both the music and the sound effects are activated and since this happens only in DosBox I'm going into the forums to post it as a bug due to Privateers weird sound program.
(Note: if you pay the game with the sound effects off and the music on. The intro looks and sounds like a silent movie) |

Try playing it now with the version 0.63 of the DOSBox. I've been playing it for a while and it run quite fast. Setting ems and xms to false, and with the cycles in 9000. |

just found out that a file was for any reason in a wrong directory, sor sorry fualks for the false alert.
but i have another question:
the game seems to run a bit slow (see my system specs above) is my pc too slow or is the configuration of my dosbox not good?
i treid the frameskip, but it didnt help.

Nearly perfect (Probably perfect on a faster pc) (2004-07-18 20:22) |
Nomad

With ems=false and ipx=false, it runs nearly perfect at 7000 cycles and frameskip of 1. It slows down the more objects there are at a nav point though. It's fine until you get to the mission where you have to break through the blockcade. You get 2 wing men (the first time you get wingmen), and there are 4-5 enemies at any one time. It slows down to a point where it becomes impossible to play. The trick until a new version of DosBox comes out is probably to kill your wingmen before you get to the nav point. Haven't tried that yet though. |

Try making the soundcard IRQ=5. That worked for me when I got the above error code. Picked this up from the forums - Magamo/Dos Boy. |

I had that same error when I was trying to make the game run.
To make it run correctly, you should check that the irq of your soundcard, is setuped correctly in the dosbox.conf... the default is 7. |
