I installed  DOSBox, but the "\" shows up as "]" so I cannot specify directories. Any ideas would be appreciated. I am using Vista.

Hi. DOSBox is working fine under Vista. But its impossible to install it on computer (installer fault) without administrator rights!

But I cant install a frontend/GUI, because there is no config-file, which is required by DOSShell.

I'm using Vista, and DOSBox works fine until I make it full screen, at which point it grinds to a practical halt. increasing cycles does not appear to help much. this didn't happen in XP, at least not as far as I could notice (is it common?). I have to run everything in a tiny portion of the screen.
 
 
 
try a different output in the configuration file of DOSBox
 
(in the startmenu there is a link Edit Configuration)
